Frequently Asked Questions

Are camps held rain or shine?

Yes, camps are held rain or shine, even snow! If it is raining hard, we stay in the forest and under cover to try and stay as dry as possible. Tarps provide additional shelter on very wet days. If you are worried about the weather, refer to our Program Preparation Guide to make sure your child is dressed properly and has the right gear.

Will a program be cancelled for extreme weather?

If there is an extreme weather warning, we will likely cancel program for the day to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We follow the school board of each program location and our judgment based on the unique location of our programs and  the roads that are taken to get there. We send emails out by 7:15am in the morning to provide information on a cancellation.

Can I drop my child off late/pick them up early?

Due to the type of programming we run, we require everyone to arrive on time for program. There is a 15 minute grace period for late arrivals and after that time, please do not come to the program that day.

Early pick-up requests must be made the morning of the program, not at drop-off. Whether the request can be accommodated is at the discretion of each Soaring Eagle Nature School instructor and does require the parent to walk in to find the group.

What if my child needs to miss a session?

While it’s not ideal for a child to miss a session, sometimes this is unavoidable. We ask that you let us know in advance if a session will be missed. A lot can happen in one day so for skill building and group cohesion, we encourage maximum participation. Full payment is required even if some dates are missed. If a day is missed, we cannot provide an opportunity to make it up on another date due to complicated logistics and frequent requests. We also find it challenging for the instructors and group to have a new child for a short period.

Do you offer other programs (birthday parties, skill workshops, classroom adventures)?

Yes, we are happy to do a program to meet your needs. Let us know what you are looking for with as much notice as possible, including the preferred date, time, location, group size, and age range.

Are scholarships available?

Our Scholarship program is under construction. We will have more information for you soon!

Are there discounts for enrolling siblings?

Yes, the third child enrolled in a year-long program gets 10% off. This applies to the family program as well. However, the discount is not automatically applied, so please contact us to adjust your household account.

The only exception is for the Forest Learners Program, where the second child is eligible for the 10% discount.

Can I come for a visit with my child?

We have annual visit days in April for parents and their kids interested in the Weekly Forest Programs. To be contacted about a visit day, register on the wait list for your preferred Year-long Forest School program.

What does my child need to bring to forest school?

Please see our Program Preparation Guide to find out what to bring and wear to forest school.

What will my child learn at Soaring Eagle Programs?

By playing nature based games, looking at nature mysteries, wandering with a group in the forest, and exploring with hands-on activities, students learn about what is around them. See Our Curriculum for specifics on what we cover.
