Frequently Asked Questions
Are camps held rain or shine?
Yes, camps are held rain or shine, even snow! If it is raining hard, we stay in the forest and under cover to try and stay as dry as possible. Tarps provide additional shelter on very wet days. If you are worried about the weather, refer to our Program Preparation Guide to make sure your child is dressed properly and has the right gear.
Will a program be cancelled for extreme weather?
If there is an extreme weather warning, we will likely cancel program for the day to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We follow the school board of each program location and our judgment based on the unique location of our programs and the roads that are taken to get there. We send emails out by 7:15am in the morning to provide information on a cancellation.
Can I drop my child off late/pick them up early?
Due to the type of programming we run, we require everyone to arrive on time for program. There is a 15 minute grace period for late arrivals and after that time, please do not come to the program that day.
Early pick-up requests must be made the morning of the program, not at drop-off. Whether the request can be accommodated is at the discretion of each Soaring Eagle Nature School instructor and does require the parent to walk in to find the group.
What if my child needs to miss a session?
While it’s not ideal for a child to miss a session, sometimes this is unavoidable. We ask that you let us know in advance if a session will be missed. A lot can happen in one day so for skill building and group cohesion, we encourage maximum participation. Full payment is required even if some dates are missed. If a day is missed, we cannot provide an opportunity to make it up on another date due to complicated logistics and frequent requests. We also find it challenging for the instructors and group to have a new child for a short period.
Do you offer other programs (birthday parties, skill workshops, classroom adventures)?
Yes, we are happy to do a program to meet your needs. Let us know what you are looking for with as much notice as possible, including the preferred date, time, location, group size, and age range.
What are your cancellation and refund policies?
If cancelling or unable to attend the program for any reason:
- 15 or more days before the start of the program, you are entitled to a full refund, minus the deposit and a $20 administration fee.
- Less than 15 days before the program or once the program has begun, there will be no refunds. If the spot gets filled, we can issue a refund minus the deposit, the fee for program days attended or missed before the spot was filled, and a $20 administration fee. No spots are filled for Monthly Forest Programs after two sessions have occurred.
- $50 deposit for programs that are between $100 and $300
- $100 deposit for programs that are between $300 and $500
- $250 deposit for programs that are $500 and up
- $500 deposit for Forest Learners Program
Any program changes are subject to a $20 administration fee.
Please visit our Policy Page for a complete list of our policies.
Are scholarships available?
Soaring Eagle Nature School is committed to being accessible regardless of financial income through our Scholarship Fund so that no one is turned away from a program.
Scholarships are awarded on a first come, first served basis so we recommend applying early. With that said, we ask that registration for your program of choice is completed before submitting an application for a scholarship. We are able to waive the deposit taken at registration if needed until the scholarship has been awarded.
Please complete the Scholarship Form (PDF) and send form to email@example.com.
Can I come for a visit with my child?
We have annual visit days in April for parents and their kids interested in the Weekly Forest Programs. To be contacted about a visit day, register on the wait list for your preferred Year-long Forest School program.
What does my child need to bring to forest school?
What will my child learn at Soaring Eagle Programs?
By playing nature based games, looking at nature mysteries, wandering with a group in the forest, and exploring with hands-on activities, students learn about what is around them. See Our Curriculum for specifics on what we cover.
